Camelford Leisure Centre – Membership Terms & Conditions

By signing up to membership, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

1. Commencement of Membership

  • Access to Camelford Leisure Centre facilities begins on your desired start date, subject to acceptance by us.

  • Membership cannot be transferred to another person.

  • We reserve the right to refuse membership at our discretion.

2. Personal Information

  • You agree to provide a valid email address, mobile phone number, photo, and personal details, and to notify us of any changes promptly.

  • You must be at least 16 years old to join, unless prior agreement and parental/carer consent has been provided, or you are taking part in a junior gym session.

3. Membership Fees & Payment

  • You agree to pay all membership fees and charges on time for the minimum period agreed.

  • Direct Debit payments start the following month after joining, unless joining within 10 working days of the month; in that case, the Direct Debit will commence the month after. Any pro rata fees due up to the start date of the Direct Debit must be paid by cash, card, or cheque.

  • Monthly membership fees are paid by Direct Debit on or just after the day stipulated by you, one month in advance. Cash memberships expire on the renewal date and must be renewed by cash, card, or cheque.

  • Direct Debit payments are non-refundable. Your membership is extended automatically by one month for each payment.

  • Membership fees may be increased at our discretion with 30 days’ notice via post or email.

4. Cooling-Off Period & Cancellations

  • You have a 10-day cooling-off period from the date of the membership confirmation letter, during which you may cancel for any reason and receive a full refund provided you have not used any facilities.

  • To cancel membership outside the cooling-off period, you must provide 1 month’s written notice to Camelford Leisure Centre or GoCardless Ltd. (2 months’ notice applies if cancelling within 2 months of joining).

  • Membership fees already paid will be refunded only if we are in material and continued breach of contract.

  • If a Direct Debit payment is returned unpaid and no cancellation notice has been received, you are still liable for the fees plus any charges. GoCardless will contact you for payment. If payment is not made, we will assume cancellation; rejoining may incur an administration fee.

5. Termination by Camelford Leisure Centre

  • We may terminate membership immediately if you commit a material breach (e.g., allowing someone else to use your membership) or if your behaviour is deemed against the interests of the Leisure Centre (e.g., abusive behaviour, vandalism, drunkenness, drug abuse, or illegal activity).

  • We may cancel or amend class formats or instructors at any time due to unforeseen circumstances.

  • We may upgrade or rearrange gym equipment or layout at any time, with changes communicated via our website or social media.

6. Health & Safety

  • You warrant that you are in good health and capable of training, and will complete the Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire and information sheets.

  • If in doubt about your fitness or health, you should seek independent medical advice.

  • You must inform us of any changes to your health and cease using facilities if you have any infection or contagious illness.

  • Participation in induction sessions is strongly recommended before using any facilities.

  • Sweat towels are compulsory when training in the fitness suite and sports hall.

7. Conduct & Liability

  • Membership is personal and cannot be used by anyone else. A profile photo is required for access.

  • Access is permitted during normal opening hours, which may be altered at our discretion. Temporary restrictions may apply for safety, maintenance, repairs, refurbishment, cleaning, or emergencies.

  • You are responsible for using equipment safely and correctly. Consult staff if unsure.

  • All members are expected to treat staff, coaches, and fellow members with respect, kindness, and consideration at all times. Harassment, abusive behaviour, or intimidation will not be tolerated and may result in termination of membership.

  • Members must wipe down and clean equipment after use and leave facilities in a clean and tidy condition for others.

  • We do not accept liability for injury in unsupervised areas unless caused by our negligence.

  • You must not abuse facilities or equipment and will be responsible for costs of damage caused negligently or wilfully.

8. Lockers & Personal Belongings

  • Lockers are first-come, first-served and require a 20p coin (non-returnable).

  • Items left in lockers or elsewhere are at your own risk unless loss, damage, or theft is caused by the negligence of Camelford Leisure Centre, employees, agents, or subcontractors.

  • We may open lockers if we reasonably suspect they contain prohibited items.

  • Contents of lockers may be stored for a reasonable period but then deemed abandoned and disposed of. We may levy a storage/disposal fee.

9. Class & Swim Session Booking and Cancellation

  • All members must provide at least 3 hours’ notice if they wish to cancel a booked fitness class or swim session. Failure to do so will result in the forfeiture of any credit or refund.

  • Members will receive a warning for late cancellations or no-shows. Accumulating two warnings within a calendar week will result in a temporary suspension of booking privileges for one week.

  • Your booking access will be reinstated seven days from the second missed session. In the meantime, you are still welcome to use our facilities on a walk-in basis, subject to availability.

  • We reserve the right to place a temporary ban on booking if a member repeatedly fails to notify us of non-attendance.

  • These measures are in place to ensure fairness and availability of classes and swim sessions for all users.
